Comprehension is the ability to understand meaning, concepts, and relationships in information, whether spoken or written, involving active mental processes like interpreting, connecting to prior knowledge, and forming mental models, with reading comprehension specifically being the goal of extracting meaning from text. It's a fundamental skill for critical thinking, problem-solving, and learning, requiring decoding words and deeper cognitive engagement with ideas.
